We must Change our Ways as Humans
Moral Decay
Sitting in my room with my beautiful family on that evening, I felt so troubled in my mind. I silently manoeuvred to the study desk to put my thoughts on a paper. I reached out to where my pencil and my drafting pad were to list down some few points on what was bothering my mind concerning the immorality that had engulfed the world nowadays.
Yes, moral decay is a serious matter that needs some serious attention at all cost, otherwise we are all to cry foul in due course. It's acceleration is double in this generation as compared to the generations that came before ours. This is all because of the coming of the so called social media with its platforms, eg WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram. Yes it is true to say social media has eased our lives in terms of communication but the way it has been mishandled, by abusing its purpose is what remains a problem.
Meeting a post of either a photo or a video of a woman giving birth, on Facebook is not strange nowadays. This is one of the signs of moral degradation. Just one generation behind us women were so much respected and things to do with their privacy couldn't be put in public like it is today. Babies were believed to being bought from hospitals. You could hear an elder telling young ones that Aunt so so is back from buying a baby. That is if a certain woman had disappeared for some weeks and had returned from the hospital, where she was giving birth. Young people could all believe it was like that. No one had questions further. All this was to protect the respect and dignity, our women had in the society. In this generation you can't try to tell a child that babies are bought from the hospital. Otherwise you will be surprised to be lecturered to the whole process from how the baby is made in their mothers womb to the time they are born. If you ask them how they knew all this, you will hear its from what they read and see in different social media platforms.
In a similar example, you will be shocked to see a leaked sex video or nude photos circulating on social media platforms, through different gudgets including smartphones, which have no age restrictions of who must have them. Children under the age of 18 are having smart phones nowadays and are likely to watch or view these sex scandal videos and photos.
The other disturbing examples is when you meet a post of someone informing the public about the passing on of either his biological mother or father who has died just some minutes ago. In most cases, they put their message on their Facebook wall like this; "I just lost my father right now, eish this life".
Another one will say; "We loved you mom but God has loved you the most". Accompaned with emijos and a photo of the deceased.
Where do such people get the energy to even hold a phone when their biological mother has just passed away couple of minutes a go? In such a small space of time you already have the guts to press the keys on your keypad? Do you think there is no reason why distant related individuals were being sent to carry the message of such nature to other villages to inform closely related people of the deceased person? And could only be spoken with much wisdom to avoid shocking those hearing the devastating news as it was.
Others have even reached a point of recording themselves either in a selfie video or just an audio of them crying as a sign of mourning their loved ones. In such a scenario you will hear them crying while mentioning some key points of the good times they had together with the deceased person, while they didn't even tell him/her while he/she was alive. Now they just doing it for public show. Nooo guyz let's be real, if really you loved them, where do you get the energy to make a video of yourself crying for them instead of being fully broken to a point of not remembering where you left your phone? Thus what we expect.
Another annoying moral decay, and is so common nowadays is when you meet a post, not only by individuals but also media pages talking about some suicide incidence, in which they include the photos of the deceased hanging on a tree with no viewership caution on it. Hey Mr journalist, where are the ethics of your job you learnt in your two or four years of your study?
In a related scenario, you will find a line up of statuses in form of photos or videos posted on one's WhatsApp or Facebook history, about how the burial ceremony of their father or mother was. Eish guys it's just a day after your mother was buried, where do you find the power to mention about it to the public? Keep those photos for yourself. The time you are strong enough you will show your kids as part of memories and letting them see what you went though when you lost their grand parents.
